About the book
Penultimate book in the Grant County series. Jeffery and Sara are arguing by the lake near her parents’ house, when Jeffery trips over a pipe coming out of the ground. The tube is connected to a coffin in which they find the corpse of a young woman. The woman is the granddaughter of a reverend from a community just outside town and the appearance say it is the usual cult of religious fanatics. But not everything is as it seems.
An officer is shot point-blank in the Grant County police station and police chief Jeffrey Tolliver is wounded, setting off a terrifying hostage situation with medical examiner Sara Linton at the center. Working outside the station, Lena Adams, newly reinstated to the force, and Frank Wallace, Jeffrey's second in command, must try to piece together who the shooter is and how to rescue their friends before Jeffrey dies. For the sins of the past have caught up with Sara and Jeffrey -- with a vengeance. . .
About the book
The book is divided into past and present, and in the past there are two cases. In the present we have Sara and Jeffery at fighting (again) because she doesn’t want to remarry him and in the past we have a young Sara and Jeffery, they just met and are about to go to Florida for a vacation but he takes her to his old county in Alabama and here everything happens.
For fifty years, the Protector ruled, reshaping her country in her image and driving her enemies to the corners of the map. For half a century the world turned around her as she built her armies, trained her Tensors, and grasped at the reins of fate itself. Now she is dead. Her followers will quiver, her enemies rejoice.
But in one tavern, deep in rebel territory, her greatest enemy drowns her sorrows. Lady Han raised a movement that sought the Protector's head, yet now she can only mourn her loss. She remembers how it all began, when the Protector was young, not yet crowned, and a desperate dancing girl dared to fall in love with her.
About the book
As with the other books, read the synopsis above. I don’t remember anything I read. Luckily I write my impressions immediately after finishing a book otherwise I would have nothing to say for these books …
All my book reviews are and will be 100% honest. I don’t get paid to write them and I don’t get “gifts” to write a good review so what I write is what I think. If I love a book, I’m going to say that, if I don’t like a book, I will write why I don’t. My critics aren’t an attack to the author, they are just how I feel about a subject or a style.
