In From Potter's Field, #1 New York Times bestselling author Patricia Cornwell once again enters the chilling world of Dr. Kay Scarpetta, Chief Medical Examiner of Virginia and consulting forensic pathologist for the FBI. Upon examining a dead woman found in snowbound Central Park, Scarpetta immediately recognizes the grisly work of Temple Brooks Gault, a bold, brilliant killer from her past. Soon she realizes that Gault's murders are but a violent chain leading up to one ultimate kill: Scarpetta herself. Now she must stay her own fears and keep step with a psychopath who is always one step ahead, both everywhere and nowhere. But even with the help of her FBI and police comrades, Scarpetta knows the endgame is hers alone to play. Having repeatedly plunged into the madness of Gault's mind, Scarpetta must finally descend into his terrifying home in the subway tunnels beneath New York City. And confront the one killer who would not be caught

About the Book

This is the sixth book of Kay Scarpetta’s Series and I liked this book more that the previous ones. I found the first ones too slow especially the very first and too tedious with details.

I still don’t remember where we met Mark, if you read my mini review for the 4th book on Goodreads.com, you’d know that I didn’t remember him all together… I do read a lot of books so maybe that’s why, but it seems that he was quite important… I remember that he was already dead in the previous book so that’s a plus since the last time, but nothing… don’t even remember the bombing (but maybe that happened outside the books).

I don’t like Kay’s relationship with Benton and I don’t understand Marino’s jealousy…

Overall I liked the plot, finally Gault’s story is over (I hope!!) but I find the ending abrupt!

Imagine a serial killer who has already struck a horrific number of times. A killer who discovers people's secrets -- the deepest, darkest secrets we keep even from ourselves -- and uses them to target and destroy his victims. The case begins with a shock, and the twists keep coming, when FBI Special Agent Smoky Barrett and her team investigate a murder brazenly committed on a flight from Texas to Virginia. Who will the next victim be? Everyone in the world has secrets. Even Smoky.

About the Book

This is the 3rd book in the series. I loved the first book, not really that much the second but I loved this one. I couldn’t stop reading.

As I said before, I love serial killers, reading about them and their motivation. And more killings there are, more I like a book.

Smoky Barrett, an FBI agent, is called by the Director of the FBI himself to solve a very delicate case. A woman is murdered on the plane travelling from Texas to Virginia but is this only the beginning or is the end of the most prolific serial killer in American History?

A new type of serial killer is stalking the streets of New York – one more devious and disturbing than ever before.

They call this butcher The Skin Collector: a tattooist with a chamber of torture hidden deep underground. But instead of using ink to create each masterpiece, the artist uses a lethal poison which will render targets dead before they can even entertain the prospect of escape . . .

Drafted in to investigate, NYPD detective Lincoln Rhyme and his associate Amelia Sachs have little to go on but a series of cryptic messages left etched into the skin of the deceased. As the pair struggle to discover the meaning behind the designs, they are led down a treacherous and twisting path where nothing is as it seems. And with the clock rapidly ticking before the killer strikes again, they must untangle the twisted web of clues before more victims – or they themselves – are next.

About the Book

I forgot how much I loved Lincoln Rhyme!

More I read, more I find out about my “genre”, I like mystery and crime books, that is obvious but I like when there are a few chapters dedicated to the killer. If it’s a serial killer even better. I love when the killer “plays” with the detectives but unfortunately I always choose wrong books… Continue reading “The Skin Collector”

Karin Slaughter’s novels featuring detective Will Trent are utterly riveting and masterfully drawn. Her latest thriller, Unseen, pits detectives, lovers, and enemies against one another in an unforgettable standoff between righteous courage and deepest evil.

Will Trent is a Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent whose latest case has him posing as Bill Black, a scary ex-con who rides a motorcycle around Macon, Georgia, and trails an air of violence wherever he goes. The cover has worked and he has caught the eye of a wiry little drug dealer who thinks he might be a useful ally. But undercover and cut off from the support of the woman he loves, Sara Linton, Will finds his demons catching up with him.

Although she has no idea where Will has gone, or why, Sara herself has come to Macon because of a cop shooting: Her stepson, Jared, has been gunned down in his own home. Sara holds Lena, Jared’s wife, responsible: Lena, a detective, has been a magnet for trouble all her life, and Jared’s shooting is not the first time someone Sara loved got caught in the crossfire. Furious, Sara finds herself involved in the same case that Will is working without even knowing it, and soon danger is swirling around both of them.

In a novel of fierce intensity, shifting allegiances, and shocking twists, two investigations collide with a conspiracy straddling both sides of the law. Karin Slaughter’s latest is both an electrifying thriller and a piercing study of human nature: what happens when good people face the unseen evils in their lives.

About the Book

This is the seventh book in Will Trent Series. Even if I didn’t particularly like the first book, I really like this series. The second book was amazing and so the third (that for me means 5 stars) and the rest was good.

I need to say that this book didn’t “kidnap” me like the others, I found the chapters too long and I didn’t like undercover work. I liked Sara and yes!! No Angie here! (I despise her character). I wish more Faith and Will as partners, solving crimes together, but no, nothing like that here.

Twenty-four hours later, the violence Michael sees around him every day explodes in his own back yard. And it seems the mystery behind Monroe's death is inextricably entangled with a past that refuses to stay buried ...

About the Book

I don’t remember how I came across with Will Trent Series, I don’t recall if it was a suggestion in my Goodreads account or I just picked it up while surfing a bookstore shelf. I need to say that I didn’t liked the first book too much, but I really enjoyed the next ones.
