Mount TBR, The Backlist Reader
For fifty years, the Protector ruled, reshaping her country in her image and driving her enemies to the corners of the map. For half a century the world turned around her as she built her armies, trained her Tensors, and grasped at the reins of fate itself. Now she is dead. Her followers will quiver, her enemies rejoice.
But in one tavern, deep in rebel territory, her greatest enemy drowns her sorrows. Lady Han raised a movement that sought the Protector's head, yet now she can only mourn her loss. She remembers how it all began, when the Protector was young, not yet crowned, and a desperate dancing girl dared to fall in love with her.
About the book
As with the other books, read the synopsis above. I don’t remember anything I read. Luckily I write my impressions immediately after finishing a book otherwise I would have nothing to say for these books …
What I think
The story of how the Protector came to be is intriguing, but when placed in the world of the Tensorate, as a series, it is useless. Moreover reading a monologue like this was tedious despite having read the book in one afternoon.
The only thing these books gave me, is the fact that I added 4 books to the books read in 2022 in no time. Because otherwise this story has given me nothing. Apart from that we live in a world where children are born asexual or maybe not (seen this latest book), after a certain age they decide whether to be part of the male or female gender, or maybe not, because apparently one can return back and decide to use neutral pronouns even as an adult. And okay, I can get that in this context but please, explain more! But then how are babies born? Who is the father of the twins (sorry, the male participant in the conception, I don’t know how to be politically correct here!!)? And how did Rider and Mokone conceive a baby? Too confusing. This author had an idea, but “they” didn’t know what “they” were writing either.
Oh and the best part of this latest book! The brother of the protector who says “you will take a husband and I will take a wife” when a few pages later he is already married for a long time. But did the author reread what they wrote? If anyone wants them, I will resell these books. I’ll sell them all for 30 euros if you want them! Please take them away from my beautiful bookshelves. And I’m sorry do say this because they were a gift from my mother. She wasted so much money on these!! If only they had a common thread in their head instead of writing 4 books. Okay, let’s forget the time and money spent on this crap… Another story with great potential but with a very bad result.
